WHO WE ARE
Just after the end of the Second World War, Alec Roger Manley began a business as a general builder and joiner, in Rodington, near Shrewsbury, Shropshire.
1945
Alec’s son, Alec John, joined the business, learning his father’s trade. We became an incorporated company in 1957. We started to favour joinery manufacture and fitting over general building works, building a solid reputation as a team of expert craftsmen.
1956
1984
Alec’s son, Fred, became involved in 1984, and is now our Managing Director.
We became members of the British Woodworking Federation (BWF) in October 1996, the trade body for the woodworking sector. We have since been shortlisted for two BWF awards, working on a national level to raise our profile and celebrate our achievements.
1996
We attained BS EN ISO 9001, the quality management accreditation for design, manufacture and supply of joinery.
2002
We invited Anthony Hoyle, one of our joiners, to be our Technical Director. He still holds this position, 20+ years on.
2003
We installed a biomass heating system which enables us to use our own wood waste to heat the workshops in winter. We live in a changing world, and environmental concern is something we take very seriously. We only source timber from sustainable and managed forest.
2014
2020
Fred’s daughter-in-law, Laura joined the team, and became a Director in 2023.
A R Manley and Son Ltd takes great pride in our longstanding tradition of nurturing talent internally. For decades, we have consistently brought on apprentices and fostered their development within our company. Presently, we are collaborating with Shrewsbury Colleges Group to enlist skilled students.
